The next year they moved to Jones, Oklahoma in Major County near to his wife's uncle and grandfather, Fred Deckers Jr. and Sr.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MLQJ-Y87)) In 1917 --- on his WWI draft registration((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:KZDF-45Y)) --- he listed his home address as Belva, Oklahoma in neighboring Woodward County, although he was listed as living in Jones on the 1920 census.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJ9D-X3B))

The earliest mention of George's schooling is in the 1900 US Census where he's listed as being able to read and write, and having attended school for 3 months out of the year.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMG5-X7Q)) [[willehelmina_furrow_1927|Billie Allen]] --- George's youngest child --- mentions in a brief [[manuscripts:short_memoir_of_billie_allen_1997|memoir]] that her father never finished the 4th grade.
====Employment====
By 1910, George was married and a self-employed farmer who owned his land outright.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MLQJ-Y87)) In 1920 his fortunes appear to have changed as he was now renting the land he was farming as he cared for his growing family.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MJ9D-X3B)) By 1930 he was living in Waynoka working on an "employer farm."((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XC4D-JWJ)) In 1940 he was in Kansas working construction as a "civil service plasterer." The census records that he worked 45 weeks a year and earned $900 ($16,435 in 2019) over the previous 18 months.((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VRK7-WBL)) When he passed in 1952, his death certificate listed his occupation as a "self employed" "carpenter."((https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K3ZC-XV2))
