He married [[jennie_belle_bloomer_1860|Jennie Belle Bloomer]] on 25 August 1878 in [[wp>Lebanon,_Kansas|Lebanon]], [[wp>Kansas|Kansas]].
====Residences====

Although no mention is made of James's education but it can be inferred that he was educated since he was literate, and in 1870 he was living with his brother John who, at that time, was a school teacher.((1870 US Census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MDKS-Z3X)) In 1905 his last year of school is listed as 1876.((1905 Kansas Census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QP82-WPZX))
====Employment====

====Death====
James died 6 December 1918 of influenza.((1919 Obituary http://www.allengarrido.com/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=obituary:james_milton_allen_obituary_1918)) It is likely that this was the infamous [[wp>Spanish_flu|Spanish Flu]] that first gained notice in [[wp>Fort_Riley|Fort Riley]], Kansas earlier that year, and likely originated((Journal of Translational Medicine https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC340389/)) in [[wp>Haskell_County,_Kansas|Haskell County]], just south of [[wp>Finney_County,_Kansas|Finney County]] where James lived.
