Mary Racey (1862) was born in Olive Township, Ohio to William Isaac Racey and Sarah Burlingame.
She married |David Helon Speck.
In 1870 Mary lived in Olive Township with her parents and five of her siblings.1) By 1880 she was living in Fairview, Barton, Kansas with her brothers Wheeler and Oscar.2) The move was likely prompted by the death of her parents in 1874 and 1876.
Sometime in 1884 she was married to David Helon Speck and by 1895 she was keeping house for seven children.3) By the turn of the century she had nine children.4)
In 1910 she was still in Barton County. Her husband had retired on land he owned and had paid for, her oldest child Frank still lived with the family and her youngest was six years old.5) By 1915 their fortunes appear to have changed since the family farm was mortgaged.6) Five years later the family was living in Lincoln in Reno County, Kansas where her husband David was working as a farmer.7)
At some point in the next six years she moved to Los Angeles where she died in 1926.8)
Mary is listed as having attended school in 1870 and being able to read and write.9)
Although Mary never had a regular job she worked for her family all of her life.
Mary passed away 22 March 1926 in Los Angeles of pneumonia.10) It's possible that she and her husband moved to California due to her illness.
