David Speck (12 December 1855) was born in Freeport, Ohio to Silas and Mary Speck.

He married Mary Lona Racey on 9 November 1844.

Residences

David grew up on his father's farm in Guernsey Co, Ohio surrounded by family. His uncle Isaac, grandfather Augustus, and granduncle Samuel lived on neighboring farms.1) In 1880 he was living in Barton Co, Kansas, still with his parents working on the farm.2)

By 1895 he was married with a large family on a farm in Barton of his own.3) By 1910 he had moved to Great Bend, the county seat of Barton County.4) In 1915 he was living in Lincoln Co, Kansas (a short trip north of Barton) with his youngest children.5)

Sometime in the mid 20s he moved to Los Angeles, California (likely to be near to his son Raymond) with his wife where she died in 1926.6) He remarried on 24 October 1928 to Eliza J. Fulton in Orange Co, California.7) In 1930 he and his wife were living in Los Angeles County.8) It is likely they were divorced sometime before 1940 as Eliza appears in the 1940 census as widowed and living alone.9) David's last address was 222 East Artesia Blvd, Artesia, California.10)

Education

The only mention of David's education is in 1870 where he was listed as having attended school within the last year.11)

Employment

David's first known employment was helping his father on the Ohio farm.12) By 1900 he was working a farm he owned outright while raising 9 children.13) In 1910 he was living in a house he owned in Great Bend and had retired from farming,14) but by 1920 he was once again listed as working on a farm and employing workers.15) In 1930, living in Los Angeles, he was again listed as retired.16)

Death

David died in Los Angeles General Hospital on 16 January 1941 after a stay of five days. The cause of death was chronic myocarditis and nephritis, a inflammation of the heart and kidneys, from which he suffered for two years.17)
